The Amazing Jean Schlumberger

Fifty four years ago today, Jean Schlumberger signed on to work at Tiffany & Co., becoming one of the best known jewelry designers of the twentieth century. He had a love for nature and sea creatures and when given the materials Tiffany & Co. offered in gems, he was able to unleash the full range of his colorful imagination. The above picture is his "Bird on a Rock" pin. It came in many different stones and sizes. His designs were unbelievably popular in the fifties and sixties and all the fashionable ladies were seen wearing them.

When working at the Bal Harbour Tiffany & Co., I have mentioned before that I spent a lot of time trying jewelry on. I used my "other" key on my keyring and opened up those displays trying on engagement rings (just so I could be prepared) and other delights. My favorite Schlumberger pieces were the 16 Stone ring-which I had every intention of buying myself with my discount..but it didn't happen...

...and the famous enamel bracelets. There were so many to choose from, in all different color combinations and stones. They were a favorite of Jackie Kennedy..she wore hers so often that they were known as the "Jackie Bracelets". They are a little pricey, which is why you don't see too many people stacking them up. I have seen pictures of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a white enamel one, she has great taste! I think I would like green with turquoise stones please.








His dazzling designs always had vibrant color combinations and a whimsical yet sophisticated feel to them. His designs are still as popular today as they were when he first started. One day I know I will be wearing that 16 Stone ring for sure!!!!
